Zachary Quinto, Shailene Woodley in “Cult of Love”

Zachary Quinto, Shailene Woodley, Mare Winningham, David Rasche, and Barbie Ferreria are just some of the names that lead the all-star cast of Leslye Headland’s (“Bachelorette”) family dramedy, “Cult of Love.”

Set on Christmas Eve, it follow four adult children and their partners as they return to their childhood home. There’s carol singing, pointed barbs, and plenty of long-buried trauma in this dark comedy about the pain those closest to us can inflict on the people we now choose to be. Merry Christmas!

The show earned a NY Times Critics’ Pick when it opened in December, and will run until February 2. 

John Mulaney in “All In”

John Mulaney, Richard Kind, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Fred Armisen will lead the rotating cast of “All In: A Comedy About Love” written by Simon Rich and directed by Alex Timbers (“Oh Hello”).

Per a press release, the show is “a series of hilarious short stories about dating, heartbreak, marriage and that sort of thing— written by Rich (Saturday Night Live, The New Yorker) — and read live by some of the funniest people on the planet, with different groups of four taking the stage each week.”

Future installments will include Lin-Manuel Miranda, Aidy Bryant, Andrew Rannells and many more. The show opens Decemeber 16, and runs only until January 26. 

Nicole Scherzinger in “Sunset Boulevard”

Former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger is drawing the best reviews of her career for her take on fading star Norma Desmond in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Sunset Blvd,” which opened in October 2024.

Purposefully over-the-top and played with a winking nod to her own persona, this bombastic, thrilling take on the musical is sure to delight fans of the original as well as those intrigued by camp — and technology, as the show puts a few unique spins on what is possible in a Broadway theater, with on-stage cameras, outside numbers, and more.

Rachel Zegler and Kit Connor in “Romeo and Juliet”

Wherefore art thou Gen Z? Will the youth show up for a production of “Romeo and Juliet”? What about if it stars Rachel Zegler and Kit Connor (“Heartstopper”)? Producers all over are holding their breath to see if a new version of “W. Shakespeare’s” classic can take hold. 

Directed by Sam Gold with music by Jack Antonoff (!), the show is surely trying to push that this isn’t your grandparents’ tragic love story. Interestingly, performances take place at the Circle in the Square Broadway theater, which is an in-the-round smaller space. When death comes, you’re going to feel it. 

“Romeo and Juliet” will premiere on Broadway September 26.

Mia Farrow and Patti LuPone, “The Roommate”

The dynamic duo at the center of the play “The Roommate” is just about all you need to know. Farrow will make her Broadway return (she last appeared on the NY stage in “Love Letters” in 2014) alongside Broadway legend LuPone. 

“Sharon’s (Farrow) never had a roommate before,” press notes for “The Roommate” explain. “In fact, there’s a lot Sharon’s never done before, but Robyn’s about to change all that. Jen Silverman’s The Roommate shatters expectations with its witty and profound portrait of a blossoming intimacy between two women from vastly different backgrounds, as they navigate the complexities of identity, morality, and the promise of reinvention. Being bad never felt so good as it does in this riveting one-act about second acts.”

Directed by Jack O’Brien, the play will begin previews August 29. 

Adam Driver, “Hold on to Me Darling”

Adam Driver returns! The acclaimed actor will make his stage return in “Hold on to Me Darling,” a play by one of our favorite filmmakers, Kenneth Lonergan (“Manchester by the Sea,” “This Is Our Youth”). 

Per the official site: “On learning of his mother’s death, country music icon Strings McCrane (Driver) finds himself in an existential tailspin. The only way out, he decides, is to abandon superstardom in favor of the simple life, so he moves back to his hometown in Tennessee. The simple life turns out to be anything but simple in this brilliantly observed tragicomedy, as the consequences of Strings’s success and mind-bending effects of his fame prove all but impossible to outrun.”

The show will play in the intimate Lucille Lortel Theatre downtown, and performances begin September 24.

Daniel Dae Kim, “Yellowface”

Daniel Dae Kim will star in “Yellowface,” by three-time Pulitzer finalist David Henry Hwang.

Per a press statement: “Inspired by real events, the playwright’s fictionalized doppelgänger protests yellowface casting in ‘Miss Saigon,’ only to mistakenly cast a white actor as the Asian lead in his own play. This Obie Award-winning and Pulitzer finalist play is a laugh-out-loud farce about the complexities of race.”

“Yellowface” will open September 13. 

Jim Parsons and Katie Holmes, “Our Town”

The high school mainstay is once again coming to Broadway, this time starring Jim Parsons, fresh off his excellent work in “Mother Play,” and Katie Holmes, who was last seen onstage last year off-Broadway in “The Wanderers.”

Parsons will play the Stage Manager in the revival of Thornton Wilder’s work, while Holmes will play Mrs. Webb, plus Zoey Deutch as Emily Webb. 

“Our Town” will begin previews on Broadway on September 17. 

Kieran Culkin, Keanu Reeves, Denzel Washington, and Many More

Beyond 2024, some other shows that will premiere later have already been announced, including a revival of “Glengarry Glen Ross” starring Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr, as well as a revival of “Waiting for Gadot” starring Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter.

Also! Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal will star in “Othello,” with Washington playing the title role and Gyllenhaal the villain, Iago. The sure-to-be-massive revivial is a long time coming: The last Broadway production of “Othello” was in 1982, starring James Earl Jones and Christopher Plummer.
