2024 may not have been a banner year for the box office like last year’s was thanks to Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” and Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” but it still had its standouts like Jon M. Chu’s film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical “Wicked.” And though the Golden Globe Awards weren’t quite ready to turn their red carpet green, the Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo-starring hit will be well-represented at this year’s ceremony, having earned four nominations, including in the category of Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy.

Held at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 5, the 82nd Golden Globe Awards kicked off outside the venue with the stars of this year’s most highly regarded films and television shows greeting fans and photographers alike. “Wicked” isn’t the only musical vying for awards glory tonight, as Jacques Audiard’s Spanish-language song-and-dance crime drama “Emilia Pérez” leads the pack with 10 nominations. Check out the full Globes winners list as it’s updated throughout the night.

Other titles hoping to improve their chances with the Academy come Oscars time by winning at the Globes are Sean Baker’s “Anora,” Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist,” James Mangold’s “A Complete Unknown,” Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two,” Coralie Fargeat’s “The Substance,” and many more. Some of the nominees walking the red carpet tonight will be Timothée Chalamet (“A Complete Unknown”), Pamela Anderson (“The Last Showgirl”), Colman Domingo (“Sing Sing”), Mikey Madison (“Anora”), Zendaya (“Challengers”), Glen Powell (“Hit Man”), Isabella Rossellini (“Conclave”), and Denzel Washington (“Gladiator II”).

The Golden Globes, as well as the upcoming Critics Choice Awards and Independent Spirit Awards, also mark an end to the awards race for TV seasons that aired in 2024. New shows vying for wins in their respective categories include “Shōgun,” “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” “Nobody Wants This,” “Baby Reindeer,” and “The Penguin,” while repeat contenders “The Bear,” “Abbott Elementary,” “Squid Game,” “Hacks,” and “True Detective” look to remain triumphant.
