Not that the FX series was scraping for any more Emmy nominations, but it is a bit unfortunate to see none of the “Shōgun” actresses besides Anna Sawai receive a nod. It becomes indicative of how progress in terms of diversity, equity, and inclusion comes quicker for men than women. So many of the categories for actresses are still counting firsts, seconds, and thirds as far as what racial backgrounds actually get to win the awards. Still, the roster of women nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series is still incredibly diverse, even if only three shows are represented.
In terms of who may be the frontrunner, it seems most likely that it is Elizabeth Debicki’s turn to win an Emmy for playing Princess Diana on “The Crown,” especially with Emmy favorites “Succession” and “The White Lotus’ out of the picture. Debicki actually won the SAG Award earlier this year over Sarah Snook’s “Succession” that won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series last season, so the British star has already built up quite a bit of momentum to be awarded for her work in the final season of the hit Netflix series. A nomination for her “The Crown” co-star Lelsey Manville more so conveys that the farewell episodes of the series landed better with Emmy voters than it did with critics.
Christine Baranski being the only person nominated here for “The Gilded Age” bodes well for future recognition for her work on the HBO series, but clearly, if the show received four nominations in this category, more voters are watching “The Morning Show” on Apple TV+.
While it is great to see Karen Pittman receive a nomination, having been with the show from the beginning, and even Greta Lee and Holland Taylor getting more credit for their expanded roles in Season 3, one could argue it was new addition Nicole Beharie who most elevated the most recent run of episodes, and is therefore the most worthy of the bunch.
Nominees are listed in order of their likelihood to win.

Last Year’s Winner: Jennifer Coolidge, “The White Lotus: Sicily”
Still Eligible: No.
Hot Streak: The possibility that sticks out first and foremost is HBO winning Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, likely for one of the stars of “The Gilded Age.” More likely though, after her SAG Award win, would be Elizabeth Debicki being the second star of “The Crown” to win the category, making it one of only a handful of shows in Emmys history to boast multiple winners.
Notable Ineligible Series: Jennifer Coolidge, Aubrey Plaza, Meghann Fahy, Sabrina Impacciatore, and Simona Tabasco, “The White Lotus: Sicily” (ended); Rhea Seehorn, “Better Call Saul” (ended); J. Smith-Cameron, “Succession” (ended)
